Lumos City

How to play

A city where every building is a Lumos product. You light the buildings up by finding orbs, and on the way you learn useful things from our sites.

The three kinds of orbs

  • Orb on a site (10 XP): you press “Go there”, land on the product’s page and find a small golden orb that pulses near the bottom. You press it and go back to the city.
  • Tool orb (20 XP): a question whose answer is on the product’s site (a number or a word). You type it in the city.
  • Knowledge orb (25 XP): a short quiz of three questions, in the building. You pass with at least two right answers.

A hint on a tool orb halves its XP. Every orb you find adds a page to the Journal, with a real fact and its source.

Gold orbs and the orb of the day

Ten gold orbs (50 XP each) are hidden across the sites, with no “Go there”. The Journal gives you a riddle for each. Every day one orb gives double XP, and days played in a row start a streak.

Districts, ranks and badges

Citadel Square is open from the start. The Money Quarter opens after 4 orbs found, Explorers’ Harbour after 10, and the Tower once all the other buildings are lit.

The ranks, from the first to the last: Curious (0 XP), Explorer (40 XP), Light Seeker (120 XP), Cartographer (250 XP), Navigator (420 XP), Architect (650 XP), Guardian of Light (900 XP), Lumos Legend (1150 XP).

There are 36 badges, for buildings, districts, milestones, gold orbs and the way you play. See all the badges.

Leaderboard

The leaderboard is optional: you choose a nickname (no account, no email) and send your score. The answers to the tool and knowledge orbs are checked on the server.

A few rules

  • The game is free, with no account. The progress cookie is set only after you press “Start the game”.
  • On the Lumos sites only a player sees the orbs; other visitors see nothing.
  • The game is for fun and general information; it does not replace the advice of a specialist.

Your progress

Your progress is kept in your browser (in a cookie that works on the Lumos Studio sites), not in an account. To move it to another phone, copy the save code from here and paste it there.
